Specialist Hospitality Program
Central to the Belmont City College Specialist Hospitality program is the study of Food in all its glory. The knowledge and skills developed in students completing the program include:
- Developing knowledge of and skills in food handling, nutrition and the use of kitchen equipment
- Assessing and evaluating the use of convenience food in our society
- Lifestyle and the impact of food that humans consume
- Developing an understanding of international foods
- Food allergies and other dietary related problems

Students will also be given the opportunity to participate in ongoing workshops presented by a number of high profile and award winning West Australian chefs.
Students enrolled in the Approved Specialist Program in Hospitality will be well placed to complete either the Hospitality and Tourism Studies program or a more general academic program in Years 11 and 12.
The Hospitality and Tourism Studies program has an emphasis in the areas of Food Production and Food Service while at the same time developing English communication and Mathematical skills for the workplace. Students enrolled in this program study a group of subjects that are integrated through a vocational focus.
The program provides a structure that has the flexibility to incorporate college initiatives such as running the college restaurant and coffee shop and includes the opportunity for completion of a Certificate 2 in Hospitality Operations or Certificate 2 in Tourism Operations through a combination of classroom activities and school-based traineeships.
On successful completion of this program, students will become eligible for secondary graduation and gain valuable TAFE entry points.

- Certificate 2 in Tourism Operations
Other pathways for the more academically able students could see them enrolled in a combination of the following subjects in Years 11 and 12:
- Health Studies
- Human Biological Science
- Food Science and Technology in the contexts of Nutrition and Health Promotions and Product Development.
Students would complete these courses at either stage 2 or 3 level with the view of sitting examinations for university entrance. Areas of possible employment would include the Health and Nutrition industry, Teaching and Public Relations.
