Premier visits Belmont City College

On Monday the Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Mark McGowan MLA and the Minister for Education, the Hon Sue Ellery MLC visited the College. Their visit was part of the government’s community cabinet program and culminated in the Premier’s weekly press conference which was held under the peppermint tree adjoining our horticulture garden area.

Our guests visited the Trade Training Centre where the Premier met current Year 11 Hospitality students and was given a barista lesson by former student Day. This was followed by time with our Inclusion and Deaf Education students in one of our Horticulture areas where the Premier, the Minister and local member Cassie Rowe planted snow peas whilst the chickens pecked through the garden beds. It was a great opportunity to showcase some of our excellent VET programs and for students to demonstrate knowledge and skills that they had learnt – real life learning was highlighted when one of our Inclusion students informed the Premier in a clear and confident manner that the chickens eat the slater worms in the garden beds and play a very important role in controlling pests.
