COVID-19 Parent Information Update 6

Dear Parent/Carer

Staff members at Belmont City College are working hard to minimise disruptions to your children(s) education due to COVID 19. The situation is fluid, and we are responding as best we can with the current information. Please note the following arrangements:

For students who are currently absent from school

  • Whilst the school remains open, the delivery of curriculum is at school and individual work will not be sent home for students staying at home without medical advice.
  • Students will have access to some materials on Connect.
  • The Department of Education website has some material available at  https://www.education.wa.edu.au/learning-at-home Resources will continue to be added over the coming weeks.
  • Students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 have access to Mathletics https://login.mathletics.com/ and Education Perfect https://epforlearning.com/ep-for-home/ Students already have login passwords for these programs.
  • English and Mathematics work packages of a general nature are also available for collection from the College administration for students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 who do not have access to the internet at home.

In the event of a school closure

  • Online curriculum will be available on the College’s Connect site. Each subject will have work available for each year group.
  • Teachers are currently showing students how to access the Connect site and use the curriculum materials.
  • Teachers will monitor and provide feedback to students online or via email
  • Students can email teachers directly if they have any questions or require clarification
  • Hard copy materials will be available for students who do not have access to internet connection at home.
  • Inclusive Education and Deaf Education, Learning Support teachers will provide website activities and hard copy work packages for students.
  • In the event of longer school closures, the Department of Education will make further arrangements to provide curriculum materials at https://www.education.wa.edu.au/learning-at-home

In general

  • Parents/Carers can assist students’ learning at home by creating a timetable with breaks, having a designated quiet place for doing school work and monitoring the completion of work.
  • Activities such as reading novels, cooking, listening to podcasts, watching films and documentaries, making things, helping around the house, puzzles, games and doing everyday maths will all contribute to developing your child’s communication skills and number skills.

Yours sincerely,

Darrel Le Mercier
Principal
