Rolling Graphics

Belmont City College Visual Arts – ‘Rolling Graphics’  student exhibition, located upstairs in the Belmont HUB. Open to the general public from November 15 to December 24 during library hours.

The Year 11 Graphic students have created a series of unique skate deck designs as part of a larger branding project centred around their own unique interests and interactions with their environment. Students followed a design process that took them on a journey through researching the historical beginnings of American skate and surf countercultures and in exploring the design processes and methods used by well known designers, such as Craig Stecyk, Natas Kaupas and Mark Gonzales.

this project allowed students to apply these non-traditional ideation methods modelled by famed designers while developing their own semiotic visual language to communicate their ideas and provide an avenue for social commentary.

Students experimented with many freehand and digital mediums and materials to devise their concept while honing in on their individual and creative style. Their designs were digitised and printed on self-adhesive vinyl. They were then applied to the skate decks by the students.
