COVID-19 Term 2 Parent Information – Update 17

Dear parent/carer

I would like to provide you with some information for the start of Term 2.

Thank you to parents/carers who responded to our SMS survey on whether their child/children will be attending school for the start of term 2. Approximately 80% of you indicated that your child/children will be attending and we look forward to welcoming these student’s tomorrow.

To ensure social distancing between adults is in place, parents are requested to drop off and pick up their children at the school gates, or nearby.  This is based on advice from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).

In line with this advice, our front office will be closed to the public from Tuesday 28 April until further notice. If you wish to speak with someone, or have any queries, please call reception on 9479 2200.

Updated advice on schools was provided by the AHPPC on Friday 24 April.  It stated that AHPPC does not believe that the ‘venue density rule’ of no more than one person per four square metres is appropriate or practical in classrooms or corridors, nor maintaining 1.5m between students during classroom activities. On Saturday the 25 April 2020 the AHPPC published updated guidelines on reducing the potential risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools. References to a 1.5m rule on entering and exiting classrooms and group work were removed.

The Department of Education has provided additional resources to schools and we have employed an additional three cleaning staff to undertake continuous cleaning regimes during the school day. Their focus will be on cleaning and disinfecting high contact surfaces that are frequently used by students and staff.

As we did, last term, we encourage students that are attending school to bring their own water bottles. These can be filled using the water fountains at the College. Good hygiene practice will also be encouraged and reinforced by college staff each day and hand sanitiser will be available in all classrooms.

Thank you for your assistance during these extraordinary times.

Kind regards,

Darrel Le Mercier
Principal
